2016 Aston Martin Vulcan No 14 of 24 Worldwide
Vat Qualifying: £2,000,000
At the very pinnacle of the hypercar market there are some cars so rare they’ll never be seen on the road. Aston Martin’s Vulcan is one such machine, a track-only limited edition of 24 cars. The result is the ultimate track-day weapon, also suitable for one-make racing or open category invitation races. The Vulcan follows in the wheeltracks of Aston Martin’s last ultra-rare high performance car one-77, with just 24 examples of the Vulcan the number a deliberate reference to the company’s long and impressive Le Mans history. The layout of the Vulcan is front mid-engined, with the entire engine sitting behind the front axle. The shape is dramatically different to the current Aston Martin range, with a low nose and new-look slimline headlamps. It’s also far lower, wider and with a multi-adjustable rear wing. Downforce levels attainable are in excess of the GT3 race cars. The driver sits encased in a strong carbon fibre tub with a carbon fibre body featuring detachable panels, the heart of the Vulcan is a 7.0 litre V12 engine developed in conjunction with Aston Martin Racing and Cosworth that produces over 800bhp. To put it in context, that’s more than a Le Mans LMP1 car. Power is transmitted to the rear-mounted Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox via a carbon-fibre propeller shaft. Suspension is by pushrods with anti-dive geometry, and is fully adjustable to enable the driver to set up the Vulcan to the circuit or conditions. Carbon ceramic racing disc brakes are gripped by Brembo racing callipers. Power levels, traction control and brake balance are all adjustable from the cockpit. The Vulcan complies with all relevant FIA race and safety requirements including the Front Head Restrain system, so it will be ready to race in open or invitation races - as well as the ultimate ‘Top Trumps’ in track day machinery. This car being number 14 out of the 24 has been specified in Verde Ithaca Pearlescent paintwork with a gloss black striping and visible carbon fibre roof.
